Euan Graham, Senior Analyst on Defence Strategy at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, said that the presence of Singaporean special forces at the exercise is noteworthy.
“We the Japanese government will guarantee that the whole project, and all the contracts will go smoothly so that there will not be any delay to the project,” Osamu Nishiwaki, a top official at Japan's Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA), told reporters.
Following the port visit to Singapore, the ship will link up with the UK-led carrier strike group centered on the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, where the Australians will integrate and train with the multinational carrier strike group.
Australia has been cleared to buy 60 Global Lightning – Joint Tactical Terminal – Transceivers (JTT-X) and 24 Next Generation Electronic Attack Units (NGEAU) under the package, according to an announcement from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
“While there is some risk and mixed signals from the Trump [administration], especially on the issue of US willingness to transfer Virginia-class subs to Australia, there is a potential upside if this review drives a more coherent US approach and cost/benefit approach towards AUKUS," analyst Euan Graham told Breaking Defense.

Australia also said it will spend $150 million AUD over the next five years to acquire an initial tranche of the PrSM system and munitions.
